Many Stories...

“There is danger in a single story,” warns Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, reflecting on how much of the world perceives Africa, as a continent of catastrophes,  conflict and darkness. “The consequence of the single story” she muses “is this It robs people of dignity. It makes our recognition of our equal humanity difficult. It emphasizes how we are different rather than how we are similar.”

As the oldest inhabited continent on Earth, Africa is rich in stories. Here are just a few, captured  in Tanzania in East Africa, over the year and a half we lived there. Stories of joy and suffering, hope and resilience, ingenuity and wonder.

As Chimamanda writes “when we reject the single story, when we realize that there is never a single story about any place, we regain a kind of paradise.”
